Lee
Thomsen, Musical Director
Lee Thomsen's love
for the barbershop style began in
1998 while he was still in high school. He
became a member of the Proud Image in 2001, while attending the University of Northern Iowa.
In January 2003, he was named Director of the
Proud Image.
The
men of The Proud Image recognized Lee's dedication
and contribution in his first year as Director and honored him as the
chapter's
Barbershopper of the Year for 2003. In April of 2004, Thomsen
helped lead
the chorus to the Central States District Plateau A Chorus
Championship, an
accolade the group duplicated in 2006, as well as 2007.
Serving as Director for the chorus has been
one of Lee's greatest experiences and is something he plans to continue
long
into the future.
When
Lee is not directing the Proud Image, he teaches 1-3
General Music at Starry Elementary in the Marion Independent School District.
He is married to the wonderful and extremely
supportive Kari (his high school sweetheart) and they have a son, Ethan. Lee is hopeful, of course, that he will
become a barbershopper.
Lee’s
other musical activities include giving voice
lessons and playing drums for his church.
He has also assisted with the Prairie High School Marching
Band drumline
in Cedar Rapids and has served as a
section leader for the Prairie All-State
Clinic. Finally, Lee has sung baritone
in two different top 10 Central States District quartets: Take Charge
and Night
& Day.
